Episode 4: Allie's Tuna Salad

Welcome back to Economy Bites. Guess what? It's our one month anniversary since launching our site back in olden time (10/2). Congratulations to us! We've made it a month! How are we celebrating? TUNA FOR EVERYONE!!

This week's episode is a little bit different in format than the previous 3. First, there's no cooking involved. Just chopping, squeezing, spooning & mixing. The lack of cooking means this is the easiest recipe so far, and it's also the shortest and calmest. What do you think of the show at a bit slower pace?

Second - this is the first time I have to admit to you, dear watcher fans, that I made a big error. It's not that I haven't made errors in the show before, OBVIOUSLY, but this is the only time the mistake has gotten a blog mention.

So, fessing up: I messed up this recipe - I didn't use the right amount of tuna. But, it's ok - because I'm fixing it here. To make enough tuna salad to last you 4 to 5 days, you should use at least 2, maybe 3, of the big tuna tins, not the small single serving ones, but the ones that are about double that size. The rest is the same - 1 apple, 1 onion, etc. There, I got it off my chest; it feels so good to be honest with you!

When making this tuna, the most important thing - I think I said this in the video - is to taste as you go. The measurements of the liquid ingredients can really vary depending on how you like your tuna salad. So my recommendation is to start with 1 Tbsp of everything (sweet relish, mayo, mustard) and adjust accordingly. Want it sweeter? Add more relish. Tangier? More mustard. Tart? Mayo. You see where I'm going with this.

Last thing: you may think this recipe is boring, but you're wrong. There are a million things you can do with tuna salad - tuna noodle casserole, tuna melts, yadda yadda. Plus, everyone should know how to make tuna salad. Its a lunch AND dinner staple. And its the best fish that comes in a can. I think I've said that on this blog before, and that disturbs me.

Alright, folks. That's all I have in me for now. Enjoy the episode and, as always, you can leave a comment on the site, or email me at [email protected] if you'd like to chat. I am still relatively unfamous, so I will get back to you quickly, promise.

Hearts and kisses - Allie

PS: next week is a VERY spooooooky dessert episode of Economy Bites! You won't want to miss it!
